PGR Network

Postgraduate researchers (PGR) are central to the intellectual life of the Centre for Disability Studies. They bring innovative and original questions, and emerging research agendas, that help shape the future of disability studies within and beyond the University of Leeds. The Centre is committed to supporting a PGR community by creating spaces for connection, dialogue, and collaboration – recognising that postgraduate networks are vital to both scholarly development and collective academic life.

The CDS PGR Network is an important part of this commitment. Run by current postgraduate researchers, the network provides a welcoming and supportive space for PGRs who are engaged in disability studies research or have an interest in disability studies. It helps foster connections between researchers at different stages of their work, across disciplines, and within and beyond the University of Leeds.

Joining the PGR Network offers an opportunity to:

  • connect with a community of researchers with shared interests in disability studies;
  • keep up to date with relevant events, opportunities and activities;
  • build networks within the University of Leeds and with researchers elsewhere;
  • take part in a supportive space for discussion, collaboration and exchange.

Members of the network have organised a range of activities, including:

  • film screenings,
  • writing workshops,
  • online reading events, and hybrid international PGR conferences.

The network continues to develop in response to the interests of its members, and new ideas for events and activities are always welcome.

If you are an existing PGR, based at any university across the globe, or a PhD Supervisor who knows of a candidate engaged in disability studies-related research, please contact the CDS PGR Network for further information. The network welcomes expressions of interest from University of Leeds PGRs who would like to take on representative roles and contribute to its ongoing development.

The network has a Microsoft Teams channel which acts as a shared space for communication and connection for PGRs hosted at the University of Leeds. This includes:

  • information about local and online events and resources related to disability studies;
  • a introductions thread to help members connect with one another, particularly where they share similar research interests;
  • notices about activities and opportunities that members may wish to join.
