Post-Graduate Symposium
This is a one-day symposium for post-graduate research students organised by the Centre for Disability Studies PGR Network on Monday 2nd September 9.30-17.00 with a social event at The Terrace afterwards.
The morning is a workshop led by Professor Sami Schalk on Critical Disability Studies As Methodology. The afternoon has a panel on Black Disability Politics chaired by Professor Scott Avery with Professor Sami Schalk and Tasnim Hassan, co-chair of Black Disabled Lives Matter Group (Alliance for Inclusive Education)
There are 35 places available, on a first come first served basis. The cost for attendance is £10 which includes refreshments and lunch during the day and a drink at the social afterwards. Please book your place using the University's online store.
Information on Accessibility:
- The University of Leeds has published information for Charles-Thackrah G.05 and G.07, including accessibility directions. Please also be aware that:
- All rooms used throughout the day are on the ground floor, wheelchair accessible and accessed via an automatic door from outside.
- There will be signage on the day to the accessible entrance and taxis can stop right outside. The what3words for Charles Thackrah entrance: ///cross.poster.yappy.
- 07 has dimmable lights whereas in G.05, the lights can be turned on and off in sections.
- 07 will be available to be used as a quiet room throughout the day.
- There is an accessible toilet and gendered standard toilets on the same floor of the building as the room.
- There is an assistive listening system in the building, which you will need an induction loop to access. If you do not have your own induction loop, it is possible to borrow one, but if this is the case, please email CDSpostgraduates@leeds.ac.ukto request it beforehand.
- There will be lunch and light refreshments provided on the day. There will be vegan and gluten free options, and some products provided will contain nuts. You are welcome to bring your own food/lunch with you, or there are food outlets nearby, should you prefer.
- There will be a social in the Terrace in the Leeds University Union from 17:00 to 19:00, the LUU building is accessible, and detailed information about the venue is available here.
